TREK OVERVIEW

Har Ki Dun Trek is one of India’s oldest treks, and it promises some of the country’s most scenic scenery. This location, which is part of the Garhwal Himalayas, is a must-see for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

It is located closer to the Himachal Pradesh-Uttarakhand boundary. This trek is classified as easy to moderate, but even novice hikers will enjoy it. Sankri serves as the starting point for this trek, and along the way, you’ll pass through Taluka, Oslo, and Kalkatidhar, among other locations.

The Har Ki Dun valley, also known as the Valley of Gods, is located in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal district, in the western part of the state.

With the exception of the monsoon season, the trek is open almost all year. Over the winter, the entire valley is blanketed with snow, making the journey more difficult and adventurous.

After the monsoons, from September to November, is one of the best times to do the Har Ki Doon trek. The path passes through alpine meadows, pine trees, and several picturesque landscapes to photograph.

The Har ki Dun trek helps explorers to see and experience the beauty of the Himalayan region, which has been a popular retreat for travellers from all over the world for centuries.

Trek Itinerary

Begin your journey early in the morning from Dehradun and drive 200 km to Sankri, a small village nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas. The drive takes around 8 to 10 hours and passes through scenic landscapes including Mussoorie, Purola, and Mori. Arrive in Sankri by late afternoon or evening and settle into a guesthouse or homestay for the night.

Begin your trek as you set out from Sankri to Osla, covering about 14 km over 6 to 7 hours. The trail winds through dense forests, across river bridges, and past the village of Seema. You'll gain significant altitude today, reaching about 2,600 mt. Overnight stay is arranged at a homestay or camp in Osla.

Trek from Osla to Kalkatiyadhar, a distance of around 7 km that will take 4
to 5 hours. The trail ascends gradually through meadows and offers beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. At 3,000 mt elevation, Kalkatiyadhar serves as your base for the next day's exploration. Settle in for the night at a campsite here.

The highlight of your trek, as you make an early start to reach Har Ki Dun Valley and return to base. The round-trip covers about 12 km and takes 6
to 7 hours. You'll trek through alpine meadows and glacial basins to reach the magnificent Har Ki Dun Valley at 3,500 mt. After spending time soaking in the panoramic views, return to your camp at Kalkatiyadhar for the night.

Begin your descent from Kalkatiyadhar back to Osla, retracing your route over 7 km. This takes around 3 to 4 hours and offers a chance to relax and enjoy the serene mountain environment. Spend the night again in Osla, where you can explore the village and interact with locals.

Involves a longer descent as you trek from Osla back to Sankri, covering the
14-km distance over 5 to 6 hours. The trail is largely downhill and offers an easier walk than the ascent. Once back in Sankri, enjoy a comfortable evening at a guesthouse, celebrating the completion of your trek.

Drive back from Sankri to Dehradun, once again covering approximately 200 km over 8 to 10 hours. Start early to ensure a timely arrival in Dehradun and to account for any potential delays due to road conditions. This concludes your Har Ki Dun trek with a rewarding blend of adventure, natural beauty, and cultural immersion
