The Gaumukh–Tapovan trek is a rare blend of adventure, natural beauty, and deep spirituality, taking you into the heart of the Himalayas. This sacred trail follows the path of the River Ganga, beginning at Gangotri, through the pristine wilderness of the Gangotri National Park, dense pine forests, and finally reaching the surreal alpine meadows of Tapovan.
Standing at an altitude of nearly 14,200 feet, Tapovan offers jaw-dropping views of Mt. Shivling, the towering Bhagirathi peaks, and vast glaciers that feed the lifeline of India – the holy Ganga. Along the way, trekkers are surrounded by blooming wildflowers, crystal-clear streams, and the tranquil stillness of the high Himalayas, making it a trek that refreshes both the body and soul.

Trek Highlights
Gaumukh Glacier – Source of the Ganga
Witness the sacred origin of the River Ganga, where icy waters gush out from the mouth of the Gaumukh Glacier. It’s a place of spiritual importance and raw natural power.
Tapovan – High-Altitude Meadow with Majestic Peaks
Camp in the surreal beauty of Tapovan, a vast alpine meadow at ~4,400 meters offering jaw-dropping views of Mt. Shivling, Bhagirathi Peaks, and Mount Meru.
Rich Biodiversity of Gangotri National Park
Walk through the protected forests of Gangotri National Park, home to pine, birch, and deodar trees, rare birds, and Himalayan wildlife like blue sheep and snow foxes.

Trek Itinerary
Scenic drive through Uttarkashi and along the Bhagirathi River. Arrive in Gangotri by evening.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse/hotel.
Gangotri to Bhojbasa (Trek – 14 km)
Trek through the Gangotri National Park, passing pine forests, rugged terrain, and Chirbasa.
Overnight stay in tents at Bhojbasa, near the Bhagirathi River.
Visit the Gaumukh Glacier, the source of the Ganga, then ascend to Tapovan meadow with majestic views of Mt. Shivling and Bhagirathi peaks. Return to Bhojbasa.
Overnight stay in tents.
Descend back through the scenic valley to Gangotri, retracing the stunning route.
Overnight stay in Gangotri.
Drive back to Dehradun, marking the end of a spiritually uplifting and visually rewarding trek.
