TREK OVERVIEW

The Brahmatal trek, located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, is one of the most beautiful winter treks in India, offering a unique combination of snow-laden trails, frozen lakes, and breathtaking Himalayan panoramas. Situated at an altitude of 12,250 ft, this trek is especially popular between December and March when the entire landscape transforms into a pristine white wonderland. The highlight of the trek is Brahmatal Lake, believed to be the meditation site of Lord Brahma, surrounded by dense oak and rhododendron forests.

The trail gradually opens up to stunning alpine meadows and provides clear views of prominent peaks like Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and Neelkanth. Trekkers also enjoy a mesmerizing view of Roopkund trek’s route from Brahmatal Top, adding to the charm. This moderate trek is ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers, with well-defined paths and gradual ascents.

Apart from its natural beauty, Brahmatal offers a chance to witness local Garhwali culture and traditional mountain villages. Whether you’re seeking solitude, photography opportunities, or an adventurous snow trek, Brahmatal delivers an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Stunning 360° views of Trishul, Nanda Ghunti & other Himalayan peaks.

Two beautiful high-altitude lakes – Brahmatal & Bekaltal (often frozen in winter).

Snow-covered forests & meadows, making it a perfect scenic Himalayan experience.

Trek Itinerary

Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the Kumaon hills and along river valleys.
On the way, enjoy views of the Alaknanda & Pindar rivers. Reach Lohajung (7,600 ft), a beautiful base village surrounded by mountains. Evening trek briefing & equipment check.
Stay: Guesthouse / Homestay.

Start the trek through dense oak & rhododendron forests. Gentle climb with intermittent clearings & stunning views of the valley. Arrive at Bekaltal (9,800 ft) – a serene, lake-side campsite. If winter, you’ll likely find the lake frozen and trails snow-covered.
Stay: Campsite near the lake.

Ascend through beautiful forests with changing landscapes. As you climb, views of Mt. Trishul & Nanda Ghunti start appearing. Camp at Brahmatal (10,400 ft) – another lake with mythological significance (linked to Lord Brahma). Evening acclimatization walk & sunset views.
Stay: Campsite near Brahmatal lake.

Early morning push for the summit (12,250 ft). The climb is moderate but rewarding with 360° Himalayan views – Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and Panchachuli. Spend some time at the top, take photos, and enjoy the panoramic scenery. Descend back to Brahmatal campsite.
Stay: Same campsite.

Begin your descent to Lohajung. Trek through the same forested trail, appreciating the beauty in reverse. Reach Lohajung by evening.
Stay: Guesthouse / Homestay.

After breakfast, drive back to Kathgodam/Rishikesh.
Trip ends with memories of lakes, snow, and mountain peaks.
